My Story
As a child, I filled notebooks with stories, conjuring characters and plots and relishing the quiet hours alone with my imagination. I learned the art and craft of fiction at the Iowa Writers' Workshop and have honed my memoir skills in courses offered by Creative Nonfiction and Catapult.
I believe everyone has a unique voice that deserves to be heard and that writing can be a joyful, empowering process that enriches our humanity. I have taught writing to students of all ages, and my teaching philosophy centers on craft and community: by coming together, sharing our observations and experiences, and learning new techniques and how to apply them, we can make our stories soar and through them find connection with others as well as ourselves.
